Game Description: Off-The-Wall Dodgeball is every man or woman for him or herself. Before players can throw the ball at opponents, they must first toss it off the wall and get their own rebound. When hit, wait until the person who hit you gets hit, and you’re back in the action!

Sleep Tag

Grade Level: 1-5
Equipment: 2 ‘wands’ (foam paddles, noodles, or racquets)
Game Description: Turn one half of the lights off so that one side of the gym is night time, and the other half is day time. The actual tag game takes place in the daytime side, but when players get tagged they travel over to the nighttime side and pretend to sleep there. 2 fairies come by and tap the sleeping players with a wand so they wake up and return back to the tag game on the day side. Red-Light Green-Light Dribbling

Game Description: This P.E. game has students practice basic start and stop signals, as well as the dribbling skill in basketball. It’s the typical red means stop, green means go game but with the added difficulty of dribbling the basketball (but no double dribble)!

Game Description: What a fun shooting game! Players can get really sweaty; a good sign of healthy exercise. This continuous shooting game gives lots of reps of practice for the shooting skill. Even when players get knocked out of the game, they can either cheer on their friends who are left in the game or go shooting around on another hoop. This is a definite must-play physical education game, especially as a part of a basketball unit.

Bench Ball

Game Description: Bench ball is arguably one of the best low organized throwing and catching games. The goal is to be the first team to get your players onto the bench. But how do you get on the bench? Your ball must be caught by your teammate(s) who are already on the bench. Every catch adds another player to the bench. Game Description: There’s a chef who’s ready to cook some pizzas. And then there are 3 types of toppings who try to run across to the other side without getting tagged by the chef. Game Description: 3-on-3 basketball is a great way to play a scrimmage-type game using only 1 net. It’s great for practicing screens, picks and rolls, give and gos, triangles, cuts, and all other fundamental basketball skills. Many lunch hours have been spend in the gym playing good old 3 on 3 basketball.
