Game Description: Here’s an amazing game idea from Deric Hafer. It’s a Capture the Flag-style modification with a gold rush theme. Classes can’t get enough of it and keep asking to play more – it’s non-stop action that gets everyone laughing and sweating! It’s a territory invasion game. Very exciting and dynamic for a strategic and energetic Physical Education class! You’d be a fool to not play this game. A fool’s gold, in fact (lame joke I know). But really, after almost 20 years of teaching PE it’s 100% for sure a top overall game.

Mooshake

Game Description: Here’s a unique throwing and catching team-building circle game idea. If you have a cow stuffy, that’d be the best, but you could also use some type of ball. A silly game with lots of laughs (thanks Gillian Boal-Thowson)!

Home Alone 2

Equipment: Cones, hula hoops
Game Description: Saw online that someone changed up Joe Defreitas’ original Home Alone game and added a teamwork strategy version. So I optimized the idea with my own students it, and here it is. It might be best played after playing a round of Home Alone the original, but definitely doesn’t have to be! Also a great Christmas holiday PE game!

Backyard Dog Tag

Equipment: Cones, 4 foam balls
Game Description: Some students are dogs (they can act like a dog if they want). The dogs are trying to chase people away from their yard. Another fun tag game idea to try in your PE class (thanks to Deric Hafer).

RPS Warm-up

Equipment: 4 cones
Game Description: Such a simple warm-up idea that students really enjoy. Once players know how to play it, it’s an instant activity to use to get your PE class started. Also doesn’t require any equipment really, except for 4 cones. It could be played anywhere, and is another great large group game! Guaranteed fun and movement.

Pinball

Equipment: pins, balls, nets
Game Description: Here’s a unique and VERY FUN pin knockover game. It’s great for practising rolling, throwing, and/or even the kicking skill, among other skills too. It’s a game that I’ve personally added to my Top 10 all time favourite games (Thanks Lee Ruark for the idea)! * Note: Kindergarten and other early age groups could play this game depending on their ability, but with modifications such as: smaller playing area, nets closer together, and removing the basketball hoop rule (or using portable kids nets or garbage can).
