Would You Rather SPORTS Edition Brain Break

Grade level: 1-6
Equipment: Projector
Game Description: Another Physedgames family version of the Would You Rather brain break workouts. This is our take on the projector workouts that can be used as a warm-up or pair it up with another one or another fitness activity or game. Could be played in the gym, or in the classroom when the gym is not available, as long as you have a projector. This is the SPORTS edition!

Would You Rather FOOD Edition Brain Break

Grade level: 1-6
Equipment: Projector
Game Description: A different type of game from what I usually post, that’s super fun and active (what I always aim for). This one is a Physedgames family version of the Would You Rather brain break workouts. This is our take on the projector workouts that can be used as a warm-up or pair it up with another one or another fitness activity or game. Could be played in the gym, or in the classroom when the gym is not available, as long as you have a projector. This one includes the popular food theme, with an appropriate difficulty level that’s not too easy and not too hard and gets the heart pumping. My kids and I are having lots of fun putting together the exercises and different themes that’ll be added later too. My wife is… not as impressed HAH. Trying my best to talk her into joining in.

Sprinters

Grade level: K-8
Equipment: Cones
Game Description: Who likes to sprint?! OK, probably not many people. But in this game, the participants might actually enjoy it (at least a little bit). That’s the hope. It’s a very easy idea: on every blow of the whistle, players will sprint and even try to catch the person in front of them. Then the groups rotate. Repeat, repeat, etc, etc.

Mirror Mirror

Grade level: 1-5
Equipment: Music
Game Description: Mirror Mirror could be a stand-alone game, could be used as a warm-up, or fitness activity. Quite a bit of action in this one. Start by dividing players into 2 equal groups. One group stands outside the basketball court line, while the other group stands inside. When the music plays, the group on the outside runs in one direction, while the group on the inside runs in the opposite direction. When the music stops, the group on the outside STOPS and FREEZES into any position/pose that they want. The players from the inside must then go and stand in front (1-2 meters apart) of a frozen player and copy or mirror the pose. Then the outside group becomes the inside group, vice-versa. If there’s an odd number, assign 1 player that is allowed to join a group. For older students, challenge them with a fitness pose – like a plank, side plank, lunge, squat, etc. Give it a go, let us know what you think! (Thanks to Anne Guilmaine for this idea)

Pace Setter

Grade level: 3-6
Equipment: Cones
Game Description: Another great game idea thanks to Joe Defreitas. This one is to help students practice pacing themselves (slow, mid, fast – walking, jogging, running) and for long distance. Set-up cones to form a large oval, enough cones 1 for each player, in a large area. Cones should be in a color sequence/pattern (example: red, green, yellow, blue, repeat). Every player must sit behind their own cone and remember which cone is theirs. The teacher or coach will have a stopwatch and tell the players they need to do 1 lap (up to you how many laps) in exactly 40 seconds. The winner is the player who got back around to their cone in the specified time that you said. So in order to be successful they will have to either walk, jog, or run.

Distance Relays

Grade level: K-8
Equipment: Cones
Game Description: This is a 2-person relay format to get players nice and sweaty. Lots of different variations can be performed (could be 100s if you’re creative enough)! So go find some room outside, or play in the gym! Partners will take turns going back and forth to the middle circle to perform whatever action or exercise you choose to get the job done – make it continuous for a certain amount of time, or race, race, RACE!
