Grade level: K-8
Equipment: 4 cones
Game Description: This is a simple warm-up activity. Just as the name says, it’s a 4-sided warm-up. Using the lengths and widths of the gym, choose 4 warm-up actions or movements for your athletes to perform for as many repetitions as needed. As with any warm-up, always try to choose actions or motions that are related to the upcoming main activity.
- Choose 4 movements or exercises and write on paper, stick to wall before class (or just tell students at the start).
- Students travel along the sides, performing the specific movements across each side.
- Can go around the entire loop once, twice, or a few times, as desired.
- Here are some ideas to get you started:
I do 4 corners as a warm up activity for 1st and 2nd graders. A variation you could add is to separate the class into two groups. On the outside (group 1) they will be doing the activities listed on the cone just like you have in the activity above. On the inside (group 2) they could jump rope. I have poly-spots down which the students have to stay on so they don't move. Good for safety of other students doing jumping rope and for the students moving on the outside. After about 2 minutes, I have the groups switch.
Another great idea, thanks!
