Minute Fitness

Grade level: 3-8
Equipment: None (or a variety)
Game Description: Came up with an easy fitness activity that had maximal engagement. In this activity, students will go full-out exercise for 1 minute, then a 20s break, then on again for 1 minute, then a break, etc. I also use laminated posters as visuals to help students choose which exercises they wish to complete, but that’s optional. Here’s a link to the posters if you want (free download, absolutely no spam or promotion, etc): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1clLqzemKN-USZ7tOMx2oXah6YKJVVBC3/view

Backyard Dog Tag

Grade level: K-4
Equipment: Cones, 4 foam balls
Game Description: Some students are dogs (they can act like a dog if they want). The dogs are trying to chase people away from their yard. Another fun tag game idea to try in your PE class (thanks to Deric Hafer).

RPS Warm-up

Grade level: 1-8
Equipment: 4 cones
Game Description: Such a simple warm-up idea that students really enjoy. Once players know how to play it, it’s an instant activity to use to get your PE class started. Also doesn’t require any equipment really, except for 4 cones. It could be played anywhere, and is another great large group game! Guaranteed fun and movement.

Massive 10 Second Tag

Grade level: 1-6
Equipment: none
Game Description: Tried a quick modification of Joel Sweetland’s ’10-second tag’ for a large group that I had. Wasn’t sure if it’d work but it went really good! Note: the cycles don’t have to be exactly 10 seconds (to keep the flow of the game going, you might add or subtract a few seconds here or there).

Angry Neighbour

Grade level: 1-5
Equipment: pool noodles, exercise mats
Game Description: This game is quick and easy and angry. For some reason, the neighbours (taggers) are not happy with the players on their yard, so they chase them around with a broomstick. At least that’s how the story goes. A good game for some laughs and quality exercise. Thanks James Barton for another game idea!
