Grade level: 1-5
Equipment: Hula-hoops, dodgeballs, cones
Game Description: In this game, there are good robots, and then there are bad robots (taggers). The good robots try their best to get away from the bad robots, because if tagged then they must head to the repair shop for a fixing! Safe zones are available for the good robots to recharge their energy when needed – but only for 10 seconds at a time.
- Most of the players are ‘good robots’ who start spread out around the gym.
- Choose a few players to be the ‘bad robots’ (taggers). They will each get a dodgeball to tag with.
- Place 2 or 3 hula-hoops in the middle circle. Those are the battery charging areas (safe zones) for the good robots to use for 10 second breaks – but only for 10 seconds, then they must leave.
- Using cones, create a rectangular area on the side. This is the ‘repair shop’ where robots must go once they are tagged. When in the repair shop, players must count out loud to 30 before re-entering the game.
- On the signal, the tag game is on! After awhile switch up taggers and play a new round.
love your games!
What game would you say that you are the most proud of that the kids enjoy for grades 3 - 5?
And K-2?
Thanks! I wouldn't say they're my games though - many of them are ideas sent in by different PE teachers. 'Everybody's It' seems to be a huge hit with the earlier grades (2-5)... they can play it over and over again and get very active playing it.
I'm still in school, but used this for student teaching with 1st graders. Modified it slightly. I used noodles instead of dodge balls, and got rid of the safe zones. Also in the repair shop they did 5 burpees then came back out. Worked out pretty well, only issues really were kids hitting with the noodles instead of tagging, and some got tired (it was the last activity of the class). Other than that, kids seemed to have fun, and were huffing and sweating by the end too.
